Raja Ampat is a spectacular tropical paradise. White sand beaches, crystal clear water that is teeming with a huge variety of fish and corals. The area is reputed to have the world’s highest concentration of marine biodiversity.
Kayaking, although new to the area is world class. With more than 1500 limestone islands to explore your senses will be overwhelmed as you cruise through the maze of islands. Each island has been sculpted by the wind and the rain into a variety of shapes and sizes.
This is a 10 day trip with 7 days of kayaking.
Upon arrival in Sorong, you’ll be met by your guide and spend a night in a comfortable 4 star hotel. The next morning we’ll transfer by ferry to the islands and stay in a local guesthouse. This is a fantastic way to take in the local culture and meet the people.
During the expedition we’ll spend 3 nights camping on deserted beaches and 4 nights in local guesthouses.
Kayaking in Raja Ampat is a true expedition in nature, each day we’ll pack up our kayaks, the excitement builds as we prepare to launch not knowing what each day will hold.
With only subsistence fishing allowed in the area the ecosystem is largely undisturbed. We’ll snorkel at every opportunity and take in the wonders of the underwater world.
We’ll explore a vast subterranean limestone cave, full of incredible stalactites and stalagmites which few people have set foot in. We use high performance plastic kayaks on this trip. They are full length, sit inside kayaks with a rudder.
Two knowledgeable guides will accompany you on the trip. One Western Guide who will conduct all the briefings, and be in charge of all safety matters. As well as one Papuan guide who was born and lives in the one of the villages in Raja Ampat. He will teach you about the rich culture and history of the area as well as show you some of the hidden pockets that make Raja Ampat so special. All meals are prepared by the guides or the local guesthouses. They feature a nice blend of Asian and Western cooking, we’ll serve dinner each night as the sun sets so you can relax in one of the most spectacular dining rooms in the world.
After 8 days we’ll return to Sorong, and enjoy a hot shower, a cold beverage and a soft bed.
