Raja Ampat is a kayakers dream destination. The area’s 1500 limestone islands are stunningly beautiful and have seen very little change or development. In many areas it feels like you’re paddling through a maze, it’s an absolute kayakers playground.
Raja Ampat has been labeled a “species factory” by marine biologists. Conservation and protection is practiced throughout this area, allowing us to experience a place on earth that is truly special.
Paddle through thriving mangrove forests, while keeping a watch for dugongs feeding on the lush sea grass. Hike to the top of a limestone bluff and look out over mushroom islands, cones, caves, white sand beaches, fissures and ridges that have all been eroded over time by wind and ocean currents.
Being touted as the earths richest Seascape, there will be plenty of time to snorkel and experience this seascape. White sand beaches give way to rich coral which is home to 41 unique species of reef fish found no where else on earth. Watch reef sharks, giant manta rays, pygmy sea horses and 1200 species of fish swimming through soft and hard coral.
We will visit several Papuan Villages, where the children will rush out to greet us and inspect the kayaks and equipment, while the adults will welcome our visit with friendly banter.
The Raja Ampat Paddling Odyssey is the perfect way to immerse yourself in this Island Paradise. This trip allows you to experience the islands, reefs, beaches and oceans as intimately as possible in a sea kayak. All the while paddling an unloaded boat through mangroves, intimate passages and limestone islands. If you decide you want a very relaxed morning or afternoon, there is the option to sit back and relax on the support boat or enjoy the areas amazing snorkeling. Our support vessel will take all the food and camping equipment from one beach campsite to the next. It is 19 meters long and 4 meters wide and has two 2 diesel engines. The boat has sleeping quarters and a dining hall, one bathroom,.and a large covered sun deck which provides a fantastic opportunity to take in the incredible views.
The crew on the support boat will assist in all aspects of camp life. The crew will set up camp and cook delicious meals with local fare. Our crew will enrich our paddling experience as only locals can. There will also be a Western kayak guide onboard who will provide all the briefings and decide on all safety matters. We plan to camp each evening, but there is the option to sleep and eat on the boat if desired.
The support boat allows us to travel from one island group to the next visiting as many of the area’s highlights as possible. It also provides some basic comforts such as a shower and toilet but doesn’t reduce the opportunity to actively paddle and participate in the landscape around you.
