Horse Assisted Ski Touring
Central Asia is an untapped adventure wonderland. Only the hardiest of travelers venture into this mountainous, culturally diverse playground. The lack of Western influence allows the few that do visit to engage in rich cultural experiences, highly unique and largely unchanged for thousands of years.
With no roads into the mountains and numerous river crossings, we’ll strap our gear, food and skis onto horses. With the guidance of local Kyrgyz horsemen we’ll leave the tiny hamlet of Sary-Mogul in southern Kyrgyzstan behind, to travel into the Pamirs. After two days of trekking, during which we will stay at various small family outposts, we will reach our base camp destination and unload the horses.
Mountains, many over 5000m, surround the base camp and ski lines can be seen all around us, many of which will be first descents. We’ll spend the next 10 days skiing as many lines as possible and at the end of it all our Kyrgyz horse crew will return and, with lighter loads, we’ll make the trek back to Sary-Mogul.
